For Credit Recovery: Summer school courses and summer Edgenuity online courses are only for repeating D's and F's. CHS summer school is not for acceleration.
For Course Advancement:
Parents and students should be aware that SUHSD program sequences were designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet A-G requirements.
While the SUHSD will accept the acceleration of students through WASC-accredited courses, because some online and summer courses offer much less instructional time and lack the advantage of a classroom instructor, students participating in abbreviated version of a course will be at a disadvantage when proceeding through a high school pathway.
Concurrent Enrollment: Students enrolling in college-level classes should understand that CHS will not enroll them in the same AP class since the AP course is recognized as the same level as the college course. Colleges would view this as repeating the same class. Concurrent courses (except PE) must be included on college applications, regardless of the grade earned. Some concurrent courses can be listed on the CHS transcript (max of 20 credits for graduation/max of 20 elective credits). Counselors must be notified and give approval to any class a student takes outside of CHS in order for the course to be added to our transcript. The Concurrent enrollment form must be used to identify those courses PRIOR to the CHS semester in which the course will be taken.
8th graders
Carlmont does not recommend taking any math classes for advancement outside of our articulated program. Since 8th graders are not Carlmont students yet, you should work with your middle school counselor.
- We do not give credit or list any courses on our CHS transcripts that are taken before a student’s 9th grade year.
- Students are placed based on the last course they successfully completed before starting the 9th grade.
- Families must submit a summer course contract if they are planning to place into a math class other than what is programmed by their 8th grade experience.
For existing Carlmont students
- Carlmont does not recommend taking any math classes for advancement outside of our articulated program.
- The only courses we can accept for credit or onto a transcript must come from a WASC accredited institution.
- Approval for any course must be obtained during the prior semester (example: course for Spring semester must be approved in the Fall semester) through completing an Informed K12 form.
- Transcripts from that institution must be submitted prior to the first day of the semester.
