Summer 2021 Update: Work permits will be issued by the district office during the summer. Please bring your signed work permit form to the district office at 480 James Ave in Redwood City. Office hours of the district office are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
Work Permit Requirements: All students under age 18 require a work permit to work. Once you turn 18, you do not need to apply for a work permit. Work permits are valid for one school year (September 1 through August 31). You must maintain a 2.0 GPA and regularly attend school to qualify for a work permit. Your work permit can be revoked at any time if your grades or attendance drops.
Step 1: Fill out a Work Permit Form
You need to fill out one of these two work permit forms. For your convenience, we provide two different formats of fillable documents: one is a fillable pdf and the other is a fillable word document. The form must be signed by you, a parent, and your employerbefore submitting it.
This is a link to the California Work Permit webpage. Please click on the first link that says "Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit-Certificate of Age Form CDE B1-1" to get the fillable Microsoft Word document.
Once you have filled out the form (which must include your social security number), you have two options for getting a work permit.
Option 1: If you are comfortable emailing a document with your social security number on it, you can take a picture of your work permit form and send it to Mr. Bohac at email@example.com. Mr. Bohac will process your work permit and then it will be available in the main office to be picked up. Please see Ms. Bravo at the main entrance.
Option 2: If you are not comfortable emailing a document with your social security number on it, you can meet Mr. Bohac from 8:15 - 8:45 am in room B-4 or at lunch in room B-4 every school day EXCEPT Thursday.
Step 3: Turn in Your Work Permit Form to Your Employer
Once you receive your work permit, you need to sign and date the form. You are not allowed to start working until your employer has received your signed work permit form. Don't forget you need to maintain a 2.0 GPA to retain your work permit.
